Rumba

Rumba is a Latin American form of music that started in Cuba just like salsa and cha cha which are also common in the Congos. They use jazz instruments like electric guitars, saxophones, drum sets and shakers. Latin style music was transported to the Congo’s in the 1940’s and then over time it blend with traditional African music and incorporated elements from the native area. Congolese Rumba had it’s sound defined in the 1970’s with the intro of soukous which is genre started in Congo.
